Success Stories

People with developmental disabilities are just like you and me. They have hopes and dreams, challenges they want to overcome and the desire to grow and develop as individuals.

If you’d like to read a few of their stories and learn more about the people supported by DCLS, click on the links below:

Kristina, Diane and Al: In early 2011, Clearly Contacts, the world’s largest online retailer of vision care products, hired three individuals who participate in the activities offered by our Surrey Connections location. Kristina, Diane and Al are all now working part-time as Shipping Specialists in the company’s Logistics Department.

Kathy: For the last three years, Kathy has been a fixture at the Studio 19 Art Program, which provides participants with the opportunity to express their artistic talents through various learning and mediums. Not only has Kathy blossomed as an artist, but she’s developed excellent teaching and support skills as part of her ongoing participation in the program.

Nathan: In August of 2010, Nathan joined the DCLS Recreation Program for the first time, as part of a three-day, two-night trip to the Zajac Ranch. The experience had a big impact on his self confidence and willingness to communicate with others.

Mark: In early 2010, Mark was nominated and elected by his peers to represent the Lower Mainland-East Region at the British Columbia Association for Community Living (BCACL) Self Advocacy Caucus. The BCACL Self Advocacy Caucus, which is made up of 14 Self Advocates from across the Province of British Columbia, lobbies for public policy changes that will benefit the developmentally disabled.
