St. John Ambulance Emergency First Aid – Community Care
All DCLS employees assigned to direct service positions and Home Sharing Providers must possess and maintain a current Emergency First Aid – Community Care certificate or the equivalent level required by the Ministry of Health in compliance with the Community Care Facility Act, Adult Care Regulations and WCB. This course meets current regulations for first aid. This course also meets Canada Labour Code first aid requirements for basic first aid.
The content you will be covering includes:
| Roles and Responsibilities of a First Aider | Burns |
| Casualty Management | Eye Injuries |
| Adult Resuscitation | Bone and Joint Injuries |
| Severe Bleeding | Poisoning (including bites and stings) |
| Medical Conditions | Cold and Heat Injuries |
| Child Resuscitation | Dental Emergencies |
| Infant Resuscitation |
- There will a written examination at the end of the course.
- Recertification is every 3 years.
- Mandatory pre-reading (books available at Resource Centre)
- We ask that you please dress comfortably for the class; dresses, skirts,shorts and open-toed shoes are not recommended.
